Early access lets you use ConfirmedCritical before its public release and help shape its development through your feedback.
As a thank-you for helping us build it, early access users receive free lifetime access. You'll also get a profile badge recognizing your contribution to ConfirmedCritical.
Only if you choose to contribute. We plan to improve the GM Assistant using gameplay data from participating campaigns, learning from how encounters unfold, how battles resolve, and how people run their games.
Participation will be opt-in and disabled by default. Using the optional GM Assistant will require contributing gameplay data to help improve it.
Our own training process will use gameplay data contributed through ConfirmedCritical, rather than scraping the internet for other people's work. Your conversations and uploaded artwork, maps, and other digital assets will not be used for training, even if you opt in.
If you prefer not to contribute gameplay data, you can leave the GM Assistant disabled and still use every other ConfirmedCritical feature. We plan to eventually make the GM Assistant available to everyone, even without contributing data. But we need to collect enough to make that possible.
ConfirmedCritical is entirely self-funded. We have no outside investors telling us how to run the company. We've turned down investment multiple times because it came with strings we weren't willing to accept.
We're beholden to our users. You're the people trusting us with your campaigns, and you're who we're building this for.
We don't think a billion-dollar budget means much if the people making decisions need someone to explain which die is the d20. The people making decisions here actually play.
Yes. Everyone who works for us, regardless of their role, must have experience playing tabletop RPGs. That includes contracted artists, or even internal administrative staff.
We believe that to build ConfirmedCritical properly, the people making it need to understand the experience it's meant to support. Knowing what a VTT does is only part of that. You also need to know what it feels like to roll dice and play grown-up make-believe with your friends.
That experience informs our work across the company. It's how we make something that feels right at the table.
Yes. Use whichever parts of ConfirmedCritical fit your table. You can keep it entirely on the GM's side or display battle maps and handouts on a second screen. Everyone can also bring a laptop or tablet while still playing together in person.
And of course it works for fully remote campaigns too. The goal is a seamless experience that supports how your group wants to play.
The biggest difference is how everything connects. We're tired of jumping between disconnected tools to prepare a campaign and run a session. The work you put into building your world should carry through to what happens at the table.
We're also not satisfied with one standout feature surrounded by things that feel half-assed. Our goal is to give the whole platform the attention each part deserves, and make those parts work together.
We also want to make crunchier games more approachable. Pathfinder, for example, can intimidate someone before they've played their first session. We want ConfirmedCritical to help people get comfortable with those rules so they can enjoy that depth without feeling like they need to memorize a textbook first.
We'll retain your campaign data for at least one year after you cancel. You'll also have the option to export your game data and take it with you.
We prefer human-created artwork. We may occasionally use AI-generated placeholders while development is underway. Any artwork we use in the product that was generated or modified using AI will be clearly labeled, and we'll replace it with human-created artwork as time allows.
For your own games, the choice is yours. You're welcome to use AI-generated artwork if you want to. We're not here to tell you how to play.
We're a tiny, self-funded team. We believe in fair and equal pay, and without outside investment, that has meant keeping the team small enough to pay people properly.
The scope is also enormous. We're building an interconnected platform for the entire life of a campaign. That means taking a hard look at what existing tools do well and where they fall short. After decades in this hobby and the tech industry, we believe we can build something better, but that's a substantial commitment to deliver on.
Development started in 2018, well before the current explosion of AI development tools. We now use AI to help speed up some work, but generated code still requires human review and adjustment. "The AI wrote it" doesn't make it good enough to ship.
We care more about building this properly than releasing it quickly. That takes longer with a small team, and we understand the wait can be frustrating. It's a standard we intend to keep.
You're talking about enshittification, and we're tired of it too.
We remember being excited about technology. Finding a great tool and looking forward to what it would become, instead of wondering how long before someone ruined it chasing infinite growth. We still think technology should feel that way.
Our business model is to charge a fair subscription and keep making something worth paying for. Hosting costs money. People deserve fair pay. We need a sustainable business, but that doesn't mean squeezing every possible dollar out of you.
That's why we've turned down investment with strings attached. We're keeping control over what we build and who it serves.
We want you to renew because you enjoy ConfirmedCritical. Holding years of your creative work hostage would be a pretty fucking miserable substitute for earning your business. Getting more successful should give us the means to make the platform better.
